Common Area Landscaping: Seasonal Notes
With the winter season comes a change in the focus and weekly maintenance activities of our landscaping crews. The following are a few things to keep in mind during this time of year:
With the cooler temperatures, irrigation has been scaled back and the focus on turf care has shifted. The Village Green has been overseeded with winter rye to help it stay healthy and green throughout the season.
As temperatures drop and we transition from fall to winter, you may notice extra leaves and/or dying plants accumulating in some areas between our landscaping crews’ maintenance visits.
Weeds will continue to be managed regularly: Flower beds are hand-weeded and playgrounds receive organic treatments.
Ant mounds are treated as soon as they appear, which is often overnight. Please note that the treatment for ant hills requires dry conditions. This is why you may notice an increase in untreated ant hills after a period of rain.
While most pruning takes place in warmer months, the ornamental grasses will be cut back before spring, which will help them grow in fuller next season.
Management staff drives the property each week in order to stay on top of landscape maintenance concerns. However, sometimes things are overlooked. If you observe litter in the community, or plants, shrubs or trees that appear to be struggling, please contact the POA office to make sure our staff is aware.
